I saw Annozero, a program on Italian national TV.

Italian government is promoting a reform of the education system. The "left" say that italian Education system is fifth in Europe, so it should not be touched. Especially they say that no budgets cuts should be done.

The conductor of the program is all for this theory. The head of the opposition, mr. Veltroni was there too. Saying the same things: this reform is dangerous, Berlusconi is dangerous. He also pointed out that Italian democracy is in danger too.

If you are a foreigner, please understand that these people are maniacs. They live in a self constructed world. They are detached from reality. They feed their spirits with anger, envy and empty words.

Actually our education system is afflicted by many problems. Nepotism and clientelism are just the most renown examples. Our education system is not working well. This is demonstrated by the fact that we do not have American, British of French going to study in Italy.

Our first university, the university of Rome (or Bologna depends on the ranking you look at) are placed well after the 100th position in world rankings. After all major europeans and US universities and after many asian universities.

What shall we do....? Follow the confused fears of Veltroni and keep the "status quo", or try our luck and do the reforms proposed by Berlusconi.

Well... I surely go for the reforms.

Berlusconi, an Italian prime minister.

No.. I would not insult Mr. Berlusconi. It is the national sport in Italy. I find this sport rather boring.

An amazing number of people like this sport in my country. Some people succeeded even to make money out of it.

Today I read on the national news agency ANSA, www.ansa.it, something very interesting.
I have ANSA as home page since 5 years, or more. Italian major newspapers suck.

Well, it seems that since october there are several protests in Italian schools and Italian universities. They want to show their disagreement toward the proposed new education system. In short: Berlusconi governament want to have less teachers better payed, rather than too many underpayed like it is now. Of course many people is afraid of possible lay offs.

In this contest, accordingly to ANSA, a Journalist asked mr. Berlusconi about the possibility to negotiate with minority leaders. He replied : "They say I am a dictator. Well, if I am so, why I should even speak with them? If I am a dictator, I just give orders. However, if I am NOT a dictator, then we are in a healthy democracy. If this is the case, how can I negotiate with somebody that state that I am a dictator and this is a regime? How can we have any dialog with such persons ? No, there will be no dialog."

I think this was a fantastic answer.

the keen liars

In Italy there is a very smart and keen kind of politics.

Nowadays, only two main parties: the "progressist" who are actually conservators. They call the others "fascists" and their political purpose is... not to change much. Easy.

But they are rather successful, they are very smart in complaining, confusing their people and making noise about personal affairs of other party individuals.

The other side should be the so called "right". They should be the conservative, however they are a actually sort of revolutionaries, they want to change everything and they are actually changing Italy a lot. They are clearly for modernization and progress.

However, in Italy is absolutely "out" to show passion for this party. Just to mention the main party name is a kind of sin. The sole name of the party leader can induce irritation to some.

That's my country.
